CHESTERTOWN, Md. - The Haverford College women's basketball team (7-2, 4-2 CC) picked up a crucial 58-46 conference road victory on Saturday, dispatching the host Washington College Shorewomen (4-5, 2-4 CC) at the Cain Athletic Center in Chestertown, Md. Haverford was paced by career-best efforts from Anna-Sophia Capizzi who tallied 19 points, and Megan Furch who added 16 to go with nine rebounds and a pair of blocks. In addition, Katie Cook set a new career high with 10 assists and added eight points.

Haverford shot 45.3 percent from the field, including an 6-14 mark from beyond the arc. A blistering start to the contest helped the Fords set the tone for the remainder of the game, as Haverford shot 50 percent in the first quarter, including a 3-4 mark from beyond the three-point line.

Haverford began the contest on a 10-4 spurt, with a Furch layup with 5:31 left in the first quarter providing the flourish. Washington cut the lead to just three with a Caitlyn Clark trey, but layups from Capizzi and Goldbach helped restore a seven point cushion. The lead stretched to 10 as Hannah Zoll drained one from beyond the arc for a 17-7 advantage.

The visitors would stretch their lead to 22-10 in the opening moments of the second quarter, and a Megan Furch runner gave the Fords a 28-14 lead with 6:19 remaining in the stanza. Haverford seemed to be firing on all cylinders, with Capizzi and Furch reaching double figures early in the second quarter. Furch drove to the basket with 4:35 left in the half, as the lead reached its peak of 18 at 32-14.

From that point, Washington College closed the half on a 6-0 run to cut the Haverford advantage to just 12 entering the locker room for the intermission. The Fords shot 46.2 percent in the first half, and connected on four of seven from downtown. The Fords also dominated in the key, with Furch helping anchor an attack that poured in 16 points in the paint in the first 20 minutes.

Capizzi got the the bucket with 5:48 left in the third quarter as the Haverford lead was back up to a comfortable 16, but a 5-0 spurt for the Shorewomen cut the lead to just 11 with 2:52 to play in the quarter. Katie Cook knocked down a three to restore a 14-point advantage, and Haverford held that comfortable margin through the early goings of the fourth.

A rejuvenated attack from Washington College began to chip away at the lead in the closing moments of the contest, as Alexis Khraling connected from long distance to put the hosts within 10 points. The Shorewomen would get no closer, as Furch and Capizzi again proved to be vital down the stretch, with each adding crucial layups to help close out the victory.

Kristi Kozlowski had 12 points to pace Washington College, adding six rebounds to her ledger. Emily Thiemann recorded a game-best three blocks for the hosts.

Haverford recorded its 12th straight victory over the Shorewomen, a streak that dates back to the 2011 campaign.
