Womens Basketball Cruises Past Bryn Mawr

HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Haverford College women's basketball team (17-5, 13-4 CC) cruised past visiting Bryn Mawr (1-20, 0-16 CC) by an 77-24 final on Tuesday evening inside the Gooding '84 Arena. Haverford has now won seven straight Centennial Conference contests. The victory clinched an eighth consecutive trip to the conference playoffs for Haverford. Haverford shot nearly 47 percent from the field on the evening, including nine three-pointers. The Fords owned the glass with a 44-28 rebounding advantage and limited turnovers, surrendering just four.

Macy Goldbach notched 14 points to pace Haverford while Julianna Clark added 13 points and seven rebounds in a reserve role. Megan Furch poured in 11 points and added five rebounds while Anna-Sophia Capizzi also added 10 points.

The Fords began the contest on an 8-0 run, with Capizzi capping the spurt by grabbing a steal off an Owls inbound and finding Goldbach down low for a layup, forcing Bryn Mawr to call for timeout with 5:37 left in the opening stanza. Clark then drilled a three-pointer to extend the Haverford lead to 11-2, and Haverford eventually stretched the run to as much as 25-2 as Maddie Gallic finished a layup early in the second quarter. Haverford held Bryn Mawr without a field goal in the first quarter, and continued that strong defensive showing into the second frame, eventually keeping the Owls to just nine first-half points with a 41-point advantage at 48-9 entering the intermission.

The second half represented a chance for Haverford's second-unit to make its mark. Led by Clark's aforementioned effort, the reserves shined for the Fords. First year Lauren Howard was a big part of the offensive effort, adding a career-best nine points. First year Caroline Andersen added eight points and a career-best six rebounds. Sophomore Nyla Robinson grabbed six rebounds, dished out four assists, and collected two steals. Junior Hannah Zoll added four points and four rebounds to her ledger. Senior Ali Weiner also saw playing time in the fourth quarter, collecting her first career steal.

In total, Haverford added 36 bench points. The Fords amassed 23 total assists, tied for the seventh-most in program single-game history.

Laya Paladugu was the leading scorer for the Owls, pacing her squad with eight points. Halena Martin had a team-best five rebounds for Bryn Mawr. Lipi Paladugu also impressed with five points and four rebounds off the bench for the visitors.

Haverford faces a quick turnaround, facing off with Muhlenberg on Thursday evening in Allentown. The contest with the Mules is slated to begin at 7:30 p.m. Haverford then has the weekend off from competition before returning for the home regular season finale on Wednesday, February 13 against Swarthmore (6 p.m.).
