ARLINGTON, Va. – The Haverford College women's basketball team (2-1) got back into the win column with a 53-33 victory over Ferrum (0-3) on Saturday afternoon at the Converse Family Fieldhouse. The contest was the consolation game of the Pablo Coto Tip-Off Tournament on the campus of Marymount University. Haverford was paced by a 15-point performance from senior Megan Furch, who led three Haverford scorers in double figures. Senior Anna-Sophia Capizzi also poured in 11, while junior Julianna Clark added 10 points for her second straight double-digit scoring effort.

First year Cortlyn Morris had a standout performance off the bench, tallying eight rebounds and three assists. Ferrum was led by Arin Bunker who contributed 10 points and six rebounds, while Cameron Hawkins and Kayla Cabiness each added nine points for the Panthers. Haverford recorded 12 steals, and benefited from 24 total Ferrum turnovers. The rebounding battle was even at 32 apiece.

The Fords opened the contest on a 12-5 run, as the early spurt was capped by back-to-back layups from Capizzi and Furch. Caroline Andersen hit one of two from the free throw line to give Haverford a seven-point lead with 3:26 to go in the opening quarter before Ferrum quickly pulled back to within four, closing out the first quarter with a Cabiness three-pointer.

Haverford answered, beginning the second on an 8-0 run as Morris finished a layup with 3:49 left in the half to give the Fords a 12-point cushion. A trey from Cabiness brought the Panthers back to within single digits, but Lauren Howard connected from downtown to push the Haverford advantage to 25-13. A Furch jumper in the final minute put Haverford up 14, and first year Kaitlyn Patterson then added a layup before the halftime buzzer, extending the lead to 16 entering the intermission.

Ferrum began the second half on a 7-0 run, cutting the Haverford lead down to just nine with 6:51 remaining in the third, but the Fords were able to hold the Panthers in check thanks in part to a 6-2 advantage in the final three minutes of the quarter. That 6-2 run ultimately stretched to 13-2 as the Fords lead ballooned to 20 points following a three-pointer from Capizzi with 7:49 remaining in the contest. First year Kayla Robinson floated in a layup with 3:10 to go, and first year Sydney Cummings also grabbed her first career field goal with just over a minute remaining to help ensure the 20-point margin.

Erica Fenton, Eleanor Alix, and Gabi Watkins also all saw the first playing time of their collegiate careers in the triumph. Anna-Sophia Capizzi was named to the Pablo Coto Tip-Off All-Tournament team following the conclusion of action.

The contest was the first meeting between Ferrum and Haverford. The Fords now return to action on Thursday, November 21 at Eastern. The matchup between Main Line foes will tip off at 6 p.m. in St. Davids, Pa.
