EASTON, Pa. - Nine members of the Haverford College women's fencing team competed in the NCAA 2013 Mid-Atlantic/South Regional hosted by Lafayette College on Saturday.

Sabriste Shannon Horn and foilist Katie Elbert led the Fords' effort as they placed 21st and 23rd,
respectively, while the highest finishes in epee belonged to Juliana Petersen (28th) and Sarah Sofia (29th).

Also performing well on Saturday were foilists Leila Braun (27th) and Jessica Poling (30th). Senior sabriste co-captain Francesca Behling saved her best for last as she capped her career with a personal-best placement of 23rd.

Freshmen sabriste Elisabeth Hawthorne and foilist Julie Ta, walk-on athletes with no fencing experience before this season, concluded their seasons in impressive fashion as they not only qualified to the regional competition but performed well, finishing 32nd and 34th, respectively.

The regional event brought an end to the careers of Behling, Katie Davis and Rupinder Garcha.
