PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Haverford College women's fencing team continued to test itself against the best competition available as the Fords traveled to the University of Pennsylvania for the Philadelphia Invitational on Saturday. Several individuals continued their successful seasons against the talent-laden field, while the team also recorded a 16-11 victory over Fairleigh Dickinson.

Sabrist Anna Neuheardt led the Fords with nine individual bout wins during the five rounds in which Haverford competed. Right behind her with eight wins was foilist and co-captain Alexandra Morrison. The Fords' junior leader set the tone early as she guided her weapon squad to a 6-3 win over Johns Hopkins in the opening round. Joining her in that effort was fellow co-captain Amira Abujbara and Zuyi Wang as each foilist recorded two wins against the Blue Jays.

Haverford's co-captains joined Neuheardt as bout winners in the matchup against the host Quakers. Sabre began to hit its stride with a 6-3 weapon squad win in Haverford's matchup with Drew. Neuheardt was again the catalyst of that effort with a 3-0 record in the round while Sofia Tieze (two wins) and Emily Brown (one victory) also contributed to the winning weapon squad.

The Fords' sabre squad kept that momentum going in the win against Fairleigh Dickinson as Neuheardt and Tieze each went 3-0, while Brown won both her bouts before sitting out the third round of bouts against FDU. The Foil squad once again got three victories from Morrison, along with a pair of bout wins from Abujbara and Wang, to help solidify the team's victory.

Lauren Pronger also added a bout victory from the epee squad during the win against FDU. Pronger then went on to record her last win of the day in the final round against NYU, while Katie Bradley led the epeeists with three wins throughout the invitational.

The Haverford College fencing teams recently announced that the 2017 Alumni Banquet and Reception will now be held on Saturday, February 25. With that change in the schedule, the Fords will have the upcoming weekend away from competition before traveling to MIT on Sunday, February 5 for the Sollee Invitational.
