Women's Fencing Posts 2-0 Record at Dan Arnstein '09 Invitational

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College women's fencing team closed its fall semester schedule by winning all six of its squad matchups on Saturday during the Dan Arnstein '09 Invitational. The Fords defeated William & Mary and Navy in what will be the team's only home bouts of the 2019-20 season.

Nine different Haverford fencers posted winning records in front of the home crowd, led by first-year sabrist Caroline Donado's unblemished 6-0 mark. She was the only sabrist to fence in both rounds. Macy Brooks reinforced the sabre squad with two victories against William & Mary while Maria Yea did the same thing against Navy. Megan Heflinger and Sofia Nicolayevsky added wins to back-to-back squad victories during their respective turns in the lineup.

Co-captain Zuyi Wang was a perfect 3-0 during her only round in the lineup as she went unblemished against Navy during her foil squad's 7-2 victory. Golda Glasser and Ceanne Lyon each posted identical 4-2 records on the day as both went 2-1 during each of the rounds. Lillian Sweeney notched a crucial bout victory in the 5-4 squad win against William & Mary.

Leading the epee squad were 4-1 win rates from Sarah Blossom and Maia Carvalho. Carvalho was a perfect 3-0 against the Midshipmen after splitting her only two bouts during the opening round. Blossom won her only two bouts she fenced against Navy after posting a 2-1 record against the Tribe to start her day. Co-captain Claire Cai and Katie Bradley alternated rounds in the lineup. Cai went 2-1 in the opening bouts against W&M while Bradley added a win to the squad victory against Navy. Haverford's dominance in all three weapons allowed Yuqin Wu to enter the lineup and continue to gain valuable experience and confidence during her rookie season.

With the fall semester competition schedule coming to a close on Saturday, the Fords will now have an extended time away from competition as they continue to train for an even more successful spring semester. Nevertheless, strong challenges still await the team with a slate that resumes on Sunday, January 12 and features some of the toughest Division I programs in the country at the Penn State Invitational.
