HAVERFORD, Pa. - Junior Diana Perry scored a team-high three goals but the Haverford College women's lacrosse team fell to visiting Washington College, 11-6, in Centennial Conference action at Swan Field on Wednesday night.
The Fords (7-6, 3-3 CC) and Shorewomen (8-4, 4-2) entered the contest with identical conference records and consequently intensity was high from the first whistle.
Haverford wasted no time in giving the home fans reason to cheer as Perry tallied the game's first goal in the second minute of play.
Senior goalie Shannon Horn (6-4) made several tough saves to keep the Fords ahead before Washington junior Emily Hubley tied the game at 1-1 with her 36th of the season in the 13th minute of action.
Megan Gallagher then restored Haverford's advantage with a successful free-position opportunity around the midway point of the first half but the Shorewomen would not go away. Anna Inserra's first of the season accounted for another deadlock on the scoreboard before another goal from Perry at 8:30 pushed the Fords ahead yet again.
Perry's second of the night, and 31st of the season, was the final goal of the opening 30 minutes as the the Fords took a 3-2 lead into the break.
Aiming for its third consecutive win, Haverford looked to finish off Washington in the second half but the visitors surged with nine of the final 12 goals of the game.
Dayna Kim and Christina Gould joined Perry in the scoring column over the final 30 minutes of play. Gould's goal was her 21st of the season as the sophomore surpassed her freshman-year total (20) with three regular-season games remaining.
Sarina Manetta registered an assist to go along with a game-high four draw controls. Perry added three draw controls as the Fords won 11 of the contest's 19 draws.
Hubley finished with a game-high four goals while Allison Remenapp (6-3) made eight saves in the victory.
Haverford faces another tough challenge on Saturday when it travels to Franklin & Marshall College for a conference contest against the eighth-ranked Diplomats (12-3, 6-0) beginning at 1 p.m.
