HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College women's lacrosse team (3-0) won its third straight game with a 5-3 decision over the Scranton University Royals (0-2) on Wednesday night at Swan Field.

After Scranton's Alexandra Alessi tallied the first goal of the game at the 27:23 mark, senior Diana Perry scored five minutes later to even the score. Just a minute after Perry's goal, the Royals retook the lead on a goal from Emily Gross. Four minutes later, Perry tied the game again on an assist from freshman Kate Sollee.

The back and forth battle continued as the Royals jumped in front 3-2 with 11 minutes left in the first stanza. With 2:26 to go, freshman Molly Lausten added her fifth goal of the year, tying the game for a third time. Sophomore Sarina Manetta came up a huge goal with just 10 seconds left in the half to give the Fords a 4-3 lead into halftime.

Sophomore Maura Grant sent one past Scranton goaltender Emily Towey to give Fords a two goal advantage with 26:18 left in the contest. From that point on, Haverford used a strong defensive effort to keep Scranton off the scoreboard in the second half. The Fords scooped up 14 ground balls and created 12 Royals turnovers in the final 30 minutes of action.

It's the first time that Haverford held an opponent scoreless in a half since Mar. 20, 2010 vs. Rutgers-Camden (19-1 win).

Perry's two goals paced the Fords' offense and gives her a team-high eight on the season. Manetta snagged four ground balls, created four turnovers, and put all four of her shots on goal. Junior Elyse Adler notched her team-high fourth assist of the season on Grant's tally. Junior Megan Chenworth had a season-best seven saves and picked up four ground balls for her third win of the season.

The Fords' three-game winning streak to start the season is the longest since they began the 2013 season with five straight victories. It's also the second straight win for Haverford over Scranton. Head coach Lauren Wray's team will now travel to No. 19 Stevenson University on Saturday with the game time schedule for noon.
