No. 19 Stevenson Comes Back to Defeat Women's Lacrosse

OWINGS, MILLS, Md. – The Haverford College women's lacrosse team got off to a fast start, but couldn't hold off the No. 19 Stevenson University Mustangs, falling 14-6 at Mustang Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Junior Elyse Adler got the scoring started two minutes in on an assist from sophomore Shannon Rafsol. Freshman Molly Lausten tallied a free position goal to give the Fords a 2-0 lead about three minutes later. Just 48 seconds after that, Stevenson got on the board on a tally from Hollie Larrimore. Lausten secured her second goal of the contest on another free position opportunity at the 22:31 mark to put the Fords up 3-1.

The Mustangs got their offense going registering six straight goals to go into halftime with a 7-3 lead. Stevenson held a 21-7 shot advantage while Haverford had 13 turnovers in the first half.

The home team scored the first goal of the second half, but seniors Dayna Kim and Diana Perry got the Fords back within three (8-5) with 24:41 to go. Two consecutive free position goals by the Mustangs pushed their lead back to five with 12:22 left in the contest. Sophomore Courtney Carter added her second goal of the season with just under a minute remaining, but Stevenson proved to be too much.

Lausten's two goals led the Fords as five different players scored for Haverford. Sophomore Sarina Manetta had a team-high four ground balls and junior Megan Chenworth set a career high with 11 saves in the loss.

Kathryn Merrick had a game-high five goals while Olivia Monteiro had a hat trick and an assist in the victory for Stevenson.

Head coach Lauren Wray's team falls to 3-1 on the season while Stevenson improved to 1-3 overall. The Fords will now travel to Colorado Springs, Colo., to take on Occidental College (Mar. 10) and Colorado College (Mar. 12). Both games are scheduled for 3 p.m.
