No. 7 Amherst Takes Home Victory over Women's Lacrosse

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College women's lacrosse team was defeated by the No. 7 Amherst College Jeffs 13-3 on Wednesday afternoon at Swan Field. 

Senior Diana Perry recorded her 17th goal of the season to get the scoring started at the 26:51 mark. Four minutes later, the No. 7 ranked Jeffs tied the game on a tally from Claire Cagnassola. Ninety seconds later, freshman Molly Lausten gave the Fords their second lead of the contest. Cagnassola tied the game with 16:18 to go and it took just 32 seconds after that for the Jeffs take their first lead on a goal from Meghan Mills. Amherst added an insurance goal off the stick of Rachel Passarelli and went into halftime with a 4-2 lead. 

Sophomore Sarina Manetta quickly got Haverford within one 43 seconds into the second half; however, Mills secured her second goal to put Amherst back up by two with 28:32 left in the game. The Jeffs continued on their scoring run, adding eight more goals in the second half to take the victory. 

Perry has now scored in eight consecutive games dating back to last season while Lausten has also nabbed a goal in every game this year. Perry is tied for fifth in the Centennial Conference in goals while Lausten is just outside the top ten. The freshman is also tied for ninth in the conference with 18 points. Manetta and senior Brianna Robbins each created three turnovers to lead the team. Junior Megan Chenworth made 13 saves to set a personal best in the loss. 

Mills led the visitors with four goals while Cagnassola had three tallies. Christy Forrest made six saves in the win. 

Head coach Lauren Wray's squad falls to 4-3 on the season while Amherst improved to 5-1 overall. The Fords' homestand continues against the No. 4 Gettysburg College Bullets on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m.
