HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College women's lacrosse team played stout defense led by goalie Megan Chenworth and also displayed good ball control throughout the contest, but were ultimately downed by No. 8 York in a non-conference game in the team's home opener on Saturday afternoon at Swan Field.

Haverford found itself trailing 4-1 late in the first half. Undaunted, the Fords rallied to score four of the next six goals to cut the Spartans' lead to 6-5 midway through the second half. York (3-1) would eventually net two insurance goals before the end of regulation.

For much of the game, the Fords (1-1) held their own and limited the Spartans' scorer Katelynn Cattrano to one shot, holding her scoreless. Cattrano had four goals in York's first three games of the season. On defense, Haverford's Noelle Smith forced three of the team's 10 caused turnovers.

Chenworth displayed excellent abilities in net, making 10 saves on 18 shots. The senior goaltender needed just one more save to tie her career high.

Senior co-captain Elyse Adler led the Fords' attack with two goals on her only two shots of the game. Sophomore Molly Lausten scored her fifth goal of the season. Christina Gould and Allie Gibbons scored the Fords' fifth and sixth goals with Gould also adding an assist on the day.

Next up for Haverford, head coach Lauren Wray's team travels to Lexington, Va. to take on No. 16 Washington & Lee College on Wednesday, Mar. 6 at 4:30 p.m. The Fords' next home game will be played on Friday, Mar. 11 against Cabrini at 4 p.m.
