HAVERFORD, Pa. – In the Centennial Conference opener for both squads, the Haverford College women's lacrosse team took down visiting McDaniel, 18-11 on Saturday afternoon at Swan Field. The Fords improve their overall record to 5-3 (1-0 Centennial) while the Green Terror fall to 4-4 (0-1 Centennial) in defeat.

The Fords were led by a career-best six goals from Allie Gibbons and a career-best nine points, including six assists, from first year Julia Manetta. The younger Manetta's six assists were the most in a single contest for Haverford since Emilie Heck also had six in April of 1991.

Julia Manetta's nine points were also the most for Haverford since Josie Ferri had 9 against Cabrini in March of 2011.

Haverford got on the scoreboard first as Julia Manetta took a free position shot just over two minutes into the contest, converting for a 1-0 lead. The Fords pulled the score to 4-1 as Sarina Manetta tallied a pair of unassisted goals while Allie Gibbons took a feed from Julia Manetta. Lindsey Farrell scored a free position shot to cut the lead to 4-2, but Sarah Svetec and Allie Gibbons responded with goals, opening things up to a 6-2 advantage with 15:54 remaining.

Olivia Geiger found the back of the net for the Green Terror, cutting the lead to just three in favor of the Fords, but after a yellow card was issued to the visitors, Sarina Manetta tallied a free position goal up a player for a 7-3 lead.

A pair of Green Terror strikes from Emily Brownawell and Megan Quattrone made the lead a bit more perilous at just 7-5, but Julia Manetta took a pass from Maura Grant and finished for an 8-5 advantage with 6:52 remaining in the first half.

The 8-5 scoreline would hold at the halftime whistle as the two teams headed for the intermission with the hosts up by three.

The Fords went ahead by six goals at 12-6 after Julia Manetta found Sarina Manetta in front of the goalmouth for a tally. McDaniel cut the lead back to four with a pair of Geiger conversions, and Paige Meszaros scored with 9:29 left in regulation to cap a 5-1 McDaniel run.

Undaunted, Haverford went back on the offensive, finishing the contest on a 5-0 run of its own. Allie Gibbons was seemingly everywhere on the Swan Field surface on Saturday, tallying six goals on seven shots on goal including three of the final four as the Fords pulled away at home. Gibbons also caused three turnovers and picked up three ground balls in an all-around performance.

The Fords went 11-11 on clear attempts and held the Green Terror to just 7-16. Haverford forced 15 turnovers and scooped up 14 ground balls in a dominating defensive effort that saw Claire Cote also cause three turnovers.

Gibbons and the Manetta sisters combined for 14 of the 18 Haverford goals.

Rachel Romens made five saves, keeping McDaniel off balance despite 23 shots. Tatiana Lathion made one save in a relief appearance, turning away a shot by Tori Arcilesi that would have pulled McDaniel to within two in the waning moments of the contest.

Haverford will next return to action on Saturday, April 1 against fourth-ranked Franklin & Marshall in Lancaster, Pa. The opening draw in Haverford's first Centennial Conference road contest of the season is slated for 12:00 p.m.
