Women's Lacrosse Falls to No. 3 Franklin & Marshall

LANCASTER, Pa. – The Haverford College women's lacrosse team was defeated by third-ranked Franklin & Marshall on Saturday afternoon by a final tally of 14-3. The Fords (5-4, 1-1 CC) struck for the first goal of the contest but couldn't chase down the Diplomats (8-1, 2-0 CC) at Tylus Field. Allie Gibbons, Sarina Manetta and Olivia DiRienz each tallied for Haverford in defeat.

DiRienz opened the scoring with 26:54 remaining in the first half, scoring unassisted to give Haverford an early lead. The Diplomats ended the first half on a 5-0 run to take a 5-1 lead into the halftime intermission. Gabby Frank tallied three goals to pick up a natural hat trick during the stretch.

Franklin & Marshall scored the first two goals of the second period before Allie Gibbons scored for Haverford with 14:21 left in the period.

Franklin & Marshall put on the pressure with a late run, scoring six goals in less than seven minutes to go ahead 13-2.  Sarina Manetta punched home a free-position attempt to cut things to 13-3 before Siobhan Burke scored in the waning minutes of the contest, as the hosts took the 14-3 win.

The trio of goal scorers for Haverford each collected two ground balls. Sarina Manetta and Julia Manetta won a pair of draw controls apiece while Gibbons caused two turnovers. Haverford was 10-13 in clear attempts and Rachel Romens made nine saves for the Fords.

Haverford returns home for a Wednesday night Centennial Conference contest against Muhlenberg. The opening draw is slated for 5:00 p.m at Swan Field.
