Women's Lacrosse Denied by No. 20 Muhlenberg

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College women's lacrosse team fell to 20th-ranked Muhlenberg on Wednesday evening at Swan Field by a final score of 20-10. Allie Gibbons posted three goals to lead the way for the hosts. Haverford is now 5-5 on the season (1-2 Centennial Conference) while the Mules sit at 8-1 (3-0 Centennial Conference) with the win.

Muhlenberg opened the scoring with three early goals as Jordy Bonvini tallied twice before the Fords got on the scoreboard with a Molly Lausten unassisted goal at 20:49 remaining. From there, the visitors went on a 6-0 run to take a 9-1 lead at 14:10 left in the first half of play.

Julia Manetta connected with Gibbons on a goal to cut things to 9-2, but Eliza Clark answered for Muhlenberg less than two minutes later for a 10-2 game. Julia Manetta and Gibbons teamed up yet again, with Gibbons scoring both at the 10:39 and the 07:31 mark to put Haverford back within striking distance at 10-4.

Muhlenberg looked poised to take at least an eight goal lead into the break, but Kate Sollee found the back of the net for the Fords, making the score 12-5 at the half. Eliza Brosgol scored unassisted to begin the second as the Fords trailed just 12-6. A 6-1 Muhlenberg run was interrupted by a Shannon Rafsol goal, but the Mules led 18-7 with 14:10 remaining in regulation.

Haverford scored three of the final four goals in the contest, with Olivia DiRienz scoring ahead of goals from Lausten and Maeve Gaffney.

Julia Manetta had four assists while Sollee added a well-rounded effort, scoring a goal, adding two assists, collecting two ground balls and winning a draw control. Claire Cote caused two turnovers to pace Haverford in the category. 

Muhlenberg was led by Bonvini, who scored seven times and won 13 draw controls. Amanda Tullo and Kasey Nagle each had four assists for the Mules.

The Fords return to action on Saturday, making the trek to Carlisle, Pa. to take on Dickinson. Game time is scheduled for 3 p.m.
