EWING, N.J. – Facing a tough early road test against the No. 2 ranked TCNJ Lions, the Haverford College women's lacrosse team was felled by a final score of 16-3 on Thursday evening at Lions Stadium.  Molly Lausten, Allie Gibbons and Olivia DiRienz tallied goals for the Fords while Paige Walton and Rachel Romens each saw time in goal, recording six saves each. The Fords are now 1-1 on the young season while TCNJ is 2-0.

TCNJ scored the first four goals of the contest before Lausten converted a free position opportunity with 22:06 left in the first half. TCNJ responded with another flurry of four goals to take an 8-1 lead, but Haverford scored the final two goals of the first half. Gibbons grabbed a feed from Juilia Manetta and finished to cut the lead to 8-2 with 2:43 left, breathing life into a Haverford offense that had stagnated in the middle part of the period.

After Alex Fitzpatrick had her shot denied by Walton, Haverford ran a quick counterattack to tally a third goal in the final seconds of the half. Olivia DiRienz picked up her first goal of the season with 43 seconds left in the opening stanza, and suddenly Haverford found itself down by just five at 8-3 entering the intermission.

TCNJ, the 2017 NCAA runner-up, finished the contest on an 8-0 scoring run, shutting out the Fords in the second half.

DiRienz, Eliza Brosgol and Sarah Svetec each won three draw controls while Brosgol, Walton and Anna Myers each picked up two ground balls. Six different Fords registered a caused turnover on the evening.

For the Lions, Fitzpatrick had five goals on 11 shots to lead all scorers while Olivia Cleale added three tallies. Elizabeth Morrison scooped five ground balls, won five draw controls and caused three turnovers to lead TCNJ. Miranda Chrone made five saves between the pipes to pick up the win. 

Haverford now returns home for a Saturday afternoon matchup with Scranton (2-0). Opening draw is slated for 1 p.m.

Prior to the contest, Haverford will honor one of its most decorated student-athletes in program history, Emilie Heck Petrone '91, upon her induction to the MAC Hall of Fame.  The matchup is the first of a two-game home stand that will also see the Fords welcome Cabrini to Swan Field on March 10 before heading to Virginia for a pair of games over spring break.
