HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College women's lacrosse team gave defending Centennial Conference champion Franklin & Marshall everything it could handle in an 8-7 defeat on Swan Field Saturday afternoon. The Fords (7-2, 1-1 CC) took a 7-6 lead with 8:47 to play in regulation and had a chance to force overtime with possession in the attacking zone during the final seconds. Ultimately, it was the No. 10 Diplomats' (7-3, 2-0 CC) goal with 2:06 remaining in regulation that proved to be the difference.

Rina Rosnow had a huge day for the Fords with four goals, including her final tally which put Haverford in front late in the contest. Allie Gibbons also scored twice for the hosts while Kate Sollee had two assists. Molly Lausten added a goal and an assist to Haverford's attack as the Fords outshot the Diplomats by a 27-21 margin.

Rosnow got her offensive day started quickly as she tallied the first goal of the game just 1:34 into the contest off a feed from Lausten. The Diplomats scored the next three goals, marking the only time all afternoon that either team had a lead of more than one goal. The Fords turned back to Rosnow late in the second half as Sollee found her classmate in front of the cage for her second goal of the afternoon with 5:22 remaining in the half. Haverford trailed 3-2 after 30 minutes, but also hit a pair of posts during the opening half.

Haverford's defensive pressure contributed to the Franklin & Marshall committing 13 turnovers during the opening 30 minutes. The Diplomats turned it over 22 times on Saturday, compared to just 17 times for the Fords. Rachel Romens made six saves, three during each half, to hold the F&M attack at bay when it was able to gain a settled possession.

Starting out the second half in similar fashion to the first, the Fords struck quickly. This time it took just 30 seconds before Gibbons scored her first of two goals on a free-position opportunity. The teams traded goals to make it four-all and five-all. Lausten converted a free-position chance of her own for her 23rd goal of the year with 20:38 to play. Rosnow completed her hat trick with 17:26 to play in regulation. It would take just forty more seconds before Gibbons' 16th goal of the season gave Haverford a 6-5 lead with 16:46 showing on the scoreboard.

Franklin & Marshall re-tied the game at six-all just over four minutes later. However, Rosnow was still not done in the attacking end as she converted her second free-position goal of the contest during a man-up opportunity, giving her side a 7-6 lead before the Diplomats roared back the game's final two goals. Those two late goals marked the fourth time that the lead changed hands in the back-and-forth contest.

The Diplomats won the game's final draw with 2:06 showing on the clock, but Haverford forced Franklin & Marshall into another turnover to reclaim the possession. Haverford gained its offensive zone but was unable to get a shot off in the final seconds in spite of Franklin & Marshall being whistled for a foul.

Defensively, Haverford caused 12 of F&M's 22 turnovers. Madison Jones played a large role in that success with five of those forced giveaways, a career high in the category. Emily Krupnick and Anna Meyers forced the visitors into a pair of giveaways. Eliza Brosgol, Sarah Svetec, and Meyers each secured a pair of draw controls for Haverford. In addition to her six saves, Romens led the team with four ground ball pickups as Meyers added three more.

Women's lacrosse will have two more crucial Centennial Conference clashes in the coming week. The Fords travel to Muhlenberg for a 4 p.m. opening draw on Wednesday before returning home next Saturday for a 12 p.m. start against Dickinson.
