Women's Lacrosse Pushes Past Dickinson, 13-10

HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Haverford College women's lacrosse team erased a 7-5 halftime deficit, storming past the Dickinson Red Devils by a final score of 13-10 at Swan Field. The Fords were paced by the reigning Centennial Conference Offensive Player of the Week, Rina Rosnow. Rosnow tallied five goals on the afternoon, matching a career best. Haverford outscored the Red Devils 8-3 in the second half. 

Rachel Romens made nine saves on 19 shots on goal, picking up her eighth win of the season between the pipes. The Fords improve to 9-2 overall on the season and 3-1 in Centennial Conference play. Dickinson is now 5-6 on the season and 2-2 in conference action.

Haverford scored the first goal of the game as Belle McMahon found the back of the net off a pass from Kate Sollee. Mack Maurer tied the score at 1-1 with a free position conversion and Dickinson took a 2-1 lead on Laurie Travaglini's goal with 21:57 to play in the opening period.

Rosnow notched her first tally just 20 seconds later, finding the back of the net off an assist from Sollee. With 19:57 remaining in the first, Sollee scored off a feed from Allie Gibbons to give Haverford a 3-2 lead.

Sam Marmo tied the score for the Red Devils, opening the floodgates on a 5-0 run that saw the visitors out to a 7-3 lead with 6:03 left in the half. The Fords battled back with Eliza Brosgol tallying a free position attempt and Gibbons teaming up with Julia Manetta for a goal in the final seconds of the stanza. Haverford entered the intermission trailing by two at 7-5.

The 2-0 spurt to end the half grew to a full-fledged run on the other side of the break, as the Fords rattled off five straight goals of their own to take an 8-7 lead with 21:54 to play in regulation. Rosnow tallied twice in the stretch and Olivia DiRienz also found paydirt in the early goings of the second half.

Dickinson proved its mettle with back-to-back goals, regaining the lead at 9-8 as Anne Dunster converted twice. Maeve Gaffney energized the crowd, tying the score at 9-9 with a free-position goal with 16:08 to play.

The teams would be held scoreless for a stretch of over eight minutes as both goalies stepped up in key moments to blank the opposition. Rosnow provided the game-winning goal at the 7:56 mark, cutting through the tension with an unassisted strike. Sarah Svetec tallied to give the Fords an insurance goal with just over six minutes to play.

After Dunster converted on a free-position with 4:12 to go, cutting the Haverford lead to just one, Rosnow provided a cushion goal with the possession clock turned off. Allie Gibbons also tallied in the waning seconds of the contest, reflecting the 13-10 final score.

DiRienz matched a career best with six draw controls and also caused two turnovers. Madison Jones and Alyssa Sherman were defensive standouts with three caused turnovers each. Sherman and Romens each had a game-high three ground balls.

The Fords, receiving votes in the lastest IWLCA poll, will now have a week to prepare for a battle at No. 1 Gettysburg on Saturday, April 14. Game time is slated for 1 p.m.
