No. 25 Women's Lacrosse Can't Solve Washington College

HAVERFORD, Pa. - The 25th-ranked Haverford College Women's Lacrosse team (9-4, 3-3 CC) was defeated by visiting Washington College (12-2, 6-0 CC) on Wednesday evening at Swan Field by a final score of 16-11. Rina Rosnow had four goals on the night for the Fords while Alyssa Sherman had a career-high six ground balls and four caused turnovers on the evening, anchoring a stout defensive effort that saw the Fords cause 13 turnovers overall. 

Haverford grabbed the early lead under a minute into regulation as Kate Sollee tallied with an unassisted strike. A 3-0 run for the visiting Shorewomen gave Washington College a 3-1 lead, but Sarah Svetec converted a free position shot to cut the visitors' lead to just one. Washington College added two for a 5-2 advantage at 17:55 before Allie Gibbons teamed up with Julia Manetta for a pair of goals as Haverford trailed by just one with 15:34 remaining in regulation.

From that point, the teams traded goals for the remainder of the half, with Gibbons again taking a feed from Manetta for a goal that cut the lead to just one at 8-7 entering the intermission. In the second half, Aubrey Robinson gave Washington College a two-goal cushion at 9-7, and after Molly Lausten converted a free-position, a 5-0 run for the visitors helped seal the victory. Lauren Brenner scored twice in the stretch as the Fords were forced to search for answers down by as many as seven with 3:41 to play.

Haverford scored three of the final five goals of the contest, including the last two tallies of the night from Svetec and Rosnow. The scores helped Haverford chip into the Washington College lead before ultimately falling by the five-goal margin. 

Rachel Romens got the start, working the first 38:36, making four saves. Amelia Slade picked up 21:24 of relief action in goal, making three saves on seven shots on frame. Anna Meyers won five draw controls for the Fords, while Allie Gibbons scored three goals, caused three turnovers and scooped up four ground balls. Manetta finished with a game-high three assists. Madison Schutz was a standout for the visitors with five draw controls, five caused turnovers and seven ground balls. Brenner had four goals to pace the Shorewomen offensively.

The Fords return to action Saturday at noon, welcoming Ursinus to Haverford. The contest will be Senior Day at Swan Field as the Fords honor seniors Madison Jones, Molly Lausten, Rachel Romens, Alyssa Sherman, Noelle Smith and Kate Sollee for their contributions to the women's lacrosse program on and off the field.
