Women's Lacrosse Clinches Postseason Berth with Victory over Bryn Mawr

HAVERFORD, Pa. - In a matchup between Bi-Co neighbors, the Haverford College women's lacrosse team (11-4, 5-3 CC) clinched a trip to the Centennial Conference tournament with a 20-2 victory over the Owls of Bryn Mawr (2-10, 0-8 CC). Haverford, receiving votes in the latest IWLCA Coaches Poll, recorded a program-record 17 assists in the victory. Julia Manetta tied the program's single-game individual record with six helpers.

In a well-balanced offensive attack, first years Courtney Cubbin and Hailey Morris each registered a hat-trick, while Maeve Gaffney, Molly Lausten, Manetta and Sarah Svetec each poured in a pair of goals. Allie Gibbons and Julia Pascarella also chipped in a trio of assists while Eliza Brosgol had a pair.

First year Belle McMahon was a standout performer with four caused turnovers and five ground balls in addition to a goal. Cubbin also caused three turnovers and scooped two ground balls while Morris recorded a caused turnover and three ground balls on the evening.  Amelia Slade got her first career start between the pipes, stopping four shots to pick up the victory. Tatiana Lathion and Paige Walton split goalkeeping duties in the second half without facing a shot on frame. 

Rina Rosnow opened the scoring for Haverford less than a minute into regulation before Bryn Mawr responded with a quick goal on the other end. Elicie Edmond converted to tie the score at 1-1 with 27:43 to go in the first half. Haverford rattled off a 5-0 run before Kendall Derber converted a free-position attempt for the Owls second goal of the contest just under 10 minutes into the contest. 

Haverford closed the game on a 13-0 run, picking up their fifth home victory of the season. The Fords fired 34 shots while limiting the Owls to seven. Haverford held a 19-5 advantage in draw controls and scooped 21 ground balls to seven for Bryn Mawr.

Haverford has now qualified for the Centennial Conference tournament for the third time in the last four seasons and for the sixth time since 2010. The Fords have assured themselves of the fourth seed in the tournament and hosting rights for the first-round contest on Wednesday, May 2. Fifth-seeded Dickinson will travel to Swan Field for the second time this season. Game time is to be determined. 

The Fords will return to action Saturday afternoon at Swarthmore, closing out the regular season with the annual Hood Trophy rivalry game. Opening draw is slated for noon at Clothier Field on the Swarthmore campus.
