SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Haverford College women's lacrosse team (12-4, 6-3 CC) put a bow on a highlight-filled regular season with a convincing win over Hood Trophy rival Swarthmore (10-6, 3-6 CC) Saturday afternoon at Clothier Field. Rina Rosnow had a game-high four goals, while Allie Gibbons added a hat trick. Rachel Romens matched a career high with 11 saves as the Fords won against the Garnet for the sixth straight season.
After Swarthmore opened the scoring just over a minute into the contest, Rosnow scored off an assist from Kate Sollee to bring the game level with 27:51 to play in the first half. A Molly Lausten goal put a flourish on a 4-0 run, prompting a Swarthmore timeout.
Swarthmore cut the lead to 4-2 with a Sydnie Schwarz goal with 17:01 remaining in the first, but Olivia DiRienz restored a three goal advantage with an unassisted strike. Rosnow tallied with just over seven minutes left in the first, and the Fords took a 6-2 lead into the intermission.
Gibbons scored off an assist from Julia Manetta with 25:52 left in regulation for a 7-2 Haverford advantage before Lausten converted a free-position goal less than a minute later for an 8-2 lead. Swarthmore tallied to cut the lead to five at 8-3, but goals from Belle McMahon and Rosnow helped put things out of reach as the Fords moved to a seven goal advantage at 10-3. Gibbons and Rosnow added goals during the final two minutes of the contest as Haverford pulled away from the Garnet for a 12-5 win. Manetta finished with a game-high four assists.
Emily Krupnick scooped a career-best four ground balls and caused four turnovers in a fantastic all-around contest. Anna Meyers won two draw controls, caused two turnovers, and scooped two ground balls. Alyssa Sherman helped fortify the back line, causing a turnover and scooping four ground balls. Romens was a standout in her final regular season contest, matching a career best with 11 saves to pick up her 10th victory between the pipes.
The Fords, receiving votes in the latest IWLCA poll, now enter the postseason with Centennial Conference Tournament action beginning Wednesday against Dickinson at Swan Field. Time of the first round contest is to be determined. Haverford is making its third trip to the Centennial Conference tournament in the last four seasons.
