HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College women's lacrosse team has been named the 2019 Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Zag Sports Division III Merit Squad.

The designation is bestowed upon the program in each division with the highest team GPA for the preceding academic year. The Fords finished the 2018-19 academic year with the highest GPA among 153 Division III teams that posted at least a 3.0. This is the second time the Haverford program has earned the organization's highest team academic award, also taking home the plaudit after the 2015-16 academic year.

In addition to the Merit Squad designation, eight members of the program were named to the IWLCA Academic Honor Roll in July. Recent graduates Allie Gibbons (psychology), Kirsten Mullin (political science), Rina Rosnow (biology), and Sarah Svetec (psychology/health studies) all earned placement on the academic honor roll for the second time in as many seasons while rising seniors Eliza Brosgol (economics), Olivia DiRienz (economics), Tatiana Lathion (political science), and Anna Meyers (economics) each received this honor in their first eligible season.

On the field, Haverford won 10 games during the 2019 season and was ranked as high as No. 21 in the IWLCA Polls throughout the season. The Fords advanced to the semifinals of the Centennial Conference Tournament for the first time since 2015 and defeated a pair of nationally-ranked opponents.

The Fords posted their highest-ranked victory in program history with a 12-10 win on Swan Field against then-No. 3 TCNJ early in the year before defeating then-No. 22 Dickinson during the first round of the conference tournament. Haverford has made the postseason in seven of the past 10 seasons, including each of head coach Katie Zichelli's first two years leading the program.
