HAVERFORD, Pa. - On Faculty Appreciation Day, the Haverford College women's lacrosse team (6-3, 1-1 CC) registered its first conference win with a convincing 22-9 victory over the visiting Dickinson Red Devils (1-6, 0-2 CC) at Swan Field.
With friends, family, and appreciated faculty members packing the bleachers, the Fords put on a show, scoring 22 goals, three goals short of the program record of 25. Callie Crawford couldn't be stopped, as the senior scored an incredible seven goals in the contest. Seven was the magic number for the day because senior Katharine Ference finished the game with seven assists to her ledger. Although it is early in conference play, the Fords took care of business, which is almost more important in the early part of the conference schedule.
Haverford scored the opening goal a minute into the contest. Sam Silverman finished the feed from Lizzie Healy for her eighth goal of the season. Silverman finished with two goals and two assists in the game, bringing her totals to nine goals and ten assists for the year.
At the 13:33 mark, Crawford scored her first goal of the game as she swiveled through multiple Dickinson defenders for the easy finish. However, easy finishing would be the story for the remainder of the game. Roma Hladky scored back-to-back goals for the Fords between the 13 and 11-minute marks. Ference picked up the assist on Hladky's first goal, while the second came from a free-position shot. Hladky finished the game with four goals, bringing her conference-leading total to 28 for the season.
Haverford scored four more goals before the end of the first period. Crawford scored three goals while Julia Curran also got on the scoresheet. It was Curran's third goal of the year. For the game, the junior scored two goals on two shot attempts. Haverford did allow two quick goals from Dickinson, but the game was entirely in control at that point.
With the 8-2 advantage, Haverford scored three more goals before Dickinson answered. Curran, Crawford, and Healy scored the period's opening goals, with the assists going to Ference, Jordan Denaver, and Silverman. Ference wanted in on the scoring action, scoring both of her goals in the second period. Katelyn Mann scored the Fords' final goal of the period, her first of the year.
The third period was highlighted by Denaver's first goal of the game, with the Fords adding five more to their total. It was Denaver's fifth goal as she also finished with two assists in the game. In the fourth period, Nancy Tucker and Ellie Hughes scored the final goals of the afternoon for Haverford. Dickinson ended the game with three consecutive goals, but the damage was already done.
The Fords secured seven ground balls and outshot Dickinson 32-15 in the matinee. Lizzie Healy finished the game with three assists. Today, teamwork was a focus for the Fords as they registered 15 assists on 22 goals. Sarah Cahn was not tested much as she benefited from her offensive and midfield setting the tone, but she recorded a save in the contest, facing six shots.
The Fords have now won two consecutive contests with the Red Devils, as the two sides last matched up in the 2019 Centennial Conference First Round contest, as the Fords took an overtime win to advance to the CC semis.
Haverford now gets a few days before they head to Allentown to take on Muhlenberg Wednesday, April 6. The opening draw for that contest is slated for 4 p.m.
