HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Haverford College women's soccer team hosted players from the Delaware County Special Olympics chapter for a 90-minute clinic last Wednesday evening.
After strength & conditioning coach Cory Walts led the 28 participants through a warm-up session, the Fords conducted several stations including dribbling, shooting, and penalty kicks. The clinic finished up with a period of scrimmaging.
The Delaware County Special Olympics chapter has been fielding two soccer teams (11v11 and 7v7) for the last several years with athletes ranging from age 17 through 66. Numerous players have participated for multiple years. The season, including two tournaments, runs from late July until the end of October. Teams that do well during the season qualify for the three-day Pennsylvania Fall Festival hosted by Villanova University on the first weekend of November each year at which Haverford student-athletes volunteer under the direction of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
Wednesday's clinic is just one example of the commitment to community service by the Haverford athletic department as the various teams engage in instructional clinics and service projects throughout the year.
