Fords make it 4 straight over Moravian

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Second-half goals from Phoebe Miller and Michelle Babicz spurred the Haverford College women's soccer team to a 2-0 non-conference win over visiting Moravian College on Wednesday afternoon at Walton Field.

The Haverford (4-2-3) win was not only the fourth straight over Moravian (5-5) but was also the fourth consecutive time the Fords have shut out the Greyhounds.

A sedate first half, with a total of only six shots, opened up during second-half action but not until the 82nd minute was one of the teams able to put a change up on the scoreboard.

Ali Lopez lofted a cross from the right sideline into the top, middle of the box where Miller dribbled to her right then fired a 15-yard shot back across into the left corner to give the Fords the lead on their seventh shot of the half.

Not even three minutes later, and on the next shot after Miller's marker, Babicz scored on a header into the left side of the goal off a ball served up by Kristin Hasselgren.

Haverford finished with a 13-5 advantage in shots which included a 9-3 edge over the final 45 minutes. The Fords contained the Moravian attack throughout the game, holding the visitors without a corner kick chance while accruing five.

Goalie Robin Chernow earned the win for the Fords coming up with three saves while Moravian's Jacqueline Zalis, who entered the game at the beginning of the second half in replacement of starter Genevieve Chaleff, was saddled with the loss after surrendering both goals and making four stops.

Next up for Haverford is a leap back into Centennial Conference action with a Saturday night visit to Lancaster, Pa., to take on home-standing Franklin & Marshall College.
