Newman, Boyer tabbed for all-region team

KANSAS CITY, Kan. – Seniors Elizabeth Newman and Meg Boyer of Haverford College's women's soccer team have been named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/Continental Tire NCAA Division III 2013 All-Mid-Atlantic Region team as announced by the coaching organization Wednesday morning.

Newman was tabbed a first-team defender while Boyer was named to the third team as a forward.

The Haverford duo were part of 11 Centennial Conference players named to the 2013 Mid-Atlantic squad. Johns Hopkins University, with four players, and the Fords were the only conference teams honored with multiple selections. Dickinson College, Franklin & Marshall College, Gettysburg College, Muhlenberg College and Swarthmore College each earned one spot on the all-region squad.

Boyer and Newman are making their second appearances on the Mid-Atlantic team. In a mid-November announcement by the league the pair were voted first-team all-Centennial players. The 2013 all-conference selection was Boyer's fourth and Newman's third, and both have earned inclusion on the conference's academic honor roll each of the three years they were eligible.

Haverford made its second straight appearance in the NCAA tournament this fall -- an at-large bid after picking up the league's automatic qualifier berth in 2012 following the team's Centennial tournament championship -- and has qualified for the conference's postseason playoffs seven consecutive seasons.

The graduating Class of 2014 compiled a four-year record of 48-15-14 tying the second-most wins of any departing class in program history. The Class of 2006 also posted 48 wins trailing only the 50 wins registered by the Class of 2013 which achieved the highest winning percentage (.740) in program history. Boyer's and Newman's class finished with a .714 winning percentage which is second-best.
