Women's Soccer Downed by Lebanon Valley, 2-0

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College women's soccer team created its fair share of opportunities on Wednesday evening. However, the Fords (3-2-1) just could not put the finishing touches on anything as they suffered a frustrating 2-0 loss at the hands of Lebanon Valley (6-1-1).

Thanks in large part to a strong offensive surge in the second half, Haverford outshot Lebanon Valley by an 18-11 margin for the contest. Over the final 45 minutes, the Fords held a 12-4 edge in shots. Lebanon Valley's Taylor Reinhold was called on to make 11 saves during her 90 minutes in net to record the win for the visitors.

Lebanon Valley got on the board early with a goal during the ninth minute of play. A through ball played by LVC's Teanna Shutt put Amanda Douglass in a 1v1 situation with Haverford goalie Robin Chernow. Douglass would finish that 1v1 situation and put her team up 1-0.

The Dutchmen carried that 1-0 lead into the halftime, but it was another quick strike that put the Fords in a 2-0 hole. Just under five minutes into the second half, Laura Zimmerman played a ball into the six. LVC's Sara Shissler gained possession and finished her close range shot in the 50th minute of play.

The 2-0 score would hold up at the final buzzer, but not without some heavy pressure from the Haverford offense. Of the Fords' 12 shots in the second half, eight of them came in the final 23 minutes of play. This included four shots in the final four minutes of action.

The offensive attacks came from all angles as the Fords had 14 different players take a shot during the game. Krista Federici, Ali Lopez, Skyler Ellenburg, and Phoebe Miller each finished with two shots on the afternoon to lead the team.

Women's soccer will be back on the road this Saturday as the team travel to York (Pa.) for a 1 p.m. meeting.  The match is the second of three straight non-conference matches before the schedule turns to Centennial Conference play for the remainder of the regular season.
