Gettysburg Slips Past Women's Soccer, 1-0

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College women's soccer team was edged out by Gettysburg College, 1-0, in a defensive battle Saturday afternoon on Walton Field. The Bullets (6-3-1, 2-0-1 CC) scored the game's only goal just under 10 minutes into the contest. That would be all the scoring that either team produced on the afternoon as the Fords (4-3-2, 0-2 CC) were unable to find an offensive answer to the early strike.

Gettysburg's only goal of the afternoon came with just 9:58 gone on the game clock. The Bullets' Lauren Schapiro found herself with possession in the middle of the 18. She would send a strike to the upper 90 for her second goal of the season.

The game's first and only goal came on the Bullets' second shot of the afternoon. Gettysburg finished the contest with a 16-4 advantage in total shots. Schapiro took seven of Gettysburg's shots in the contest. As a team, the Fords evenly split their shots with two in each half.

Raina Fitzpatrick took the first shot of the game for Haverford just over a minute prior to Gettysburg scoring its lone tally of the day. That shot from Fitzpatrick traveled over the crossbar. Connie Friedman took the Fords' second shot on the afternoon in the 36th minute of play, sending her shot wide of target.

The Fords' second half chances were taken by Safiyah Riddle and Phoebe Miller. Riddle watched her shot get blocked down in the box during the 48th minute of play. Miller sent Haverford's final shot of the game wide in the 60th minute of play.

Eliza Gray picked up the win and shutout for Gettysburg in goal as she played the full 90 minutes. For Haverford, Robin Chernow made six saves on the afternoon.

Women's soccer will travel to Ursinus this Wednesday for its third Centennial Conference meeting. That match will get underway at 7:30 p.m.
