Women's Soccer Stifles Lebanon Valley, 2-0

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College women's soccer team recorded its second straight 2-0 win of the season with Saturday's result coming against Lebanon Valley. The Fords (2-1) got goals from Skyler Ellenburg and Grace Mathis to hand the Dutchmen (2-1) their first loss of the season.

Both of Haverford's goals came in the second half with a shot from Ellenburg glancing off an LVC defender and into the goal for the 1-0 advantage in the 51st minute of play. Mathis added the insurance goal in the 76th minute after she crashed in on goal hard after an initial save from the Dutchmen goalie. Leanne Ludwick and Kristen Fiore were credited with the assists on the respective goals. Ludwick's assist was the first point of her collegiate career.

Defensively, Haverford limited Lebanon Valley to just five shots on the afternoon. Kathy Prescott made three saves to record her second straight shutout. She now has six shutouts in her last 14 starts with two more combined shutouts during this stretch. However, she had to play the full 90 minutes to keep this streak going as her final save of the afternoon came on sliding stop off her line with just over five minutes remaining in regulation.

The Fords owned a 7-2 edge in shots after the first 45 minutes to go along with a 4-0 advantage in corner kick attempts. Despite the consistent attack, the Fords had nothing to show for their offensive attempts on the scoreboard. Nevertheless, Ellenburg stayed persistent and created her own space in the 51st minute just over four minutes after she saw her first shot of the half saved.

Haverford kept the offensive pressure up and finished the contest with a 14-5 margin in shots. The Fords were also the beneficiaries of nine corner kick attempts while conceding just one on the defensive end. That pressure paid off when Mathis crashed in on goal to knock home a shot from Fiore that was originally saved but found the feet of Mathis for the 2-0 edge.

In what will be the team's final tune up before the Centennial Conference opens play next weekend, Haverford will be back at home on Tuesday in a 4:30 p.m. match against Eastern. Women's soccer will then head out on the road next Saturday to take on Dickinson.
