Women's Soccer Stops Dickinson to Win Conference Opener, 1-0

CARLISLE, Pa. – A goal from Kendra Griesman just two minutes into the Centennial Conference opener was all the Fords needed on Saturday to down Dickinson by a 1-0 score. Griesman's first collegiate goal came at a very opportune time as the Red Devils have given the Fords trouble in recent memory.

In order for Haverford to start off the Centennial Conference schedule with an outright victory, the Fords (4-1, 1-0 CC) needed to hand the Red Devils (4-1-1, 1-0 CC) their first loss of the season. In addition to the offense, Haverford also got a shutout behind Kathy Prescott who made five saves on the afternoon for her third shutout of the season.

Prescott has also been part of another combined shutout in 2016 as the Fords have conceded just one goal through the first five games of the season. Prescott lowered her goals against average to 0.21 for the season as she moved into sole possession of 10th place in school history with the 13th win of her career. Prescott now holds a career record of 13-5-1, including six shutouts.

Griesman's unassisted goal came just two minutes into the game on what was her only shot of the game. The Fords finished with a total of seven shots for the afternoon. Raina Fitzpatrick was the only Haverford player to record multiple shots in what was a varied attack from the Fords all afternoon.

Women's soccer will now return to non-conference play for the final three matches during the month of September. Up first will be a home date this Wednesday against DeSales that will start at 4 p.m. Trips to Stevenson and Widener will close out the first month of the season.
