Women's Soccer Plays to Scoreless Draw at Stevenson

OWINGS MILL, Md. – For the second straight time this week, the Haverford College women's soccer team found itself in an overtime battle. Unlike Wednesday, the Fords (5-1-1) were unable to find the game-winner in overtime as they settled for a scoreless draw against Stevenson (3-3-1). In what has become an annual tough meeting for both sides, the teams have split the series 1-1-2 in the past four years.

Haverford nearly doubled the Mustangs in shots with a 19-10 advantage. However, both sides left the field felling as though they had chances to win the match. Reigning Centennial Conference Defensive Player of the Week Kathy Prescott made five saves as she recorded her fourth solo shutout of the year and the team's fifth clean sheet. Tiffany McKee made 12 saves for the hosts to hold up her end of the scoreless draw.

As mentioned above, both teams created chances throughout the night. Those created opportunities also led to a defensive save for each side to preserve the deadlock on the scoreboard. Stevenson made the first defensive save of the night as Kendra Griesman got on the end of a corner kick and put a header towards the near post. The shot had the goalie beat but a defender on the post cleared the ball off the line.

In the second half, Haverford made its own defensive save to deny Kelsey Krupski the potential go-ahead goal in the 64th minute. The Fords finished regulation with three times as many shots as they took 18 attempts at goal and conceded just six.

Stevenson held the upper hand in the first overtime with the only three shots and one corner kick, but two saves from Prescott forced a second overtime session. Each side had one shot in the final 10 minutes while Haverford had its final two tries at a corner. Both goalies were called on to make a save in the final overtime session.

Grace Mathis and Griesman each finished with four shots. Nine different players recorded a shot over the 110 minute contest for the Fords.

Women's soccer will be back on the road this coming Wednesday as it takes on Widener at 7 p.m. The Fords will return to Walton Field next Saturday to take on Gettysburg at 1 p.m.
