BALTIMORE – The Haverford College women's soccer team fell victim to a goal in each half during a 2-0 defeat at No. 17 Johns Hopkins on Saturday. The Blue Jays (11-1-2, 6-0 CC) maintained sole possession of first place in the conference with their victory over the Fords (8-3-2, 3-2-1 CC).

The Centennial Conference's leaders in both goals and assists got together to give the hosts a 1-0 edge when Meg Van de loo scored her 13th goal of the season in just the second minute of game action. The goal came off of Ana Bengoechea's seventh assist of the year. Bengoechea added the insurance tally for Johns Hopkins with her seventh goal of the year during the 65th minute of play.

Haverford played a statistically even first half with Johns Hopkins as each team recorded four shots and put one of those attempts on goal. However, it was the Blue Jays that struck first with a goal off of a corner kick. The Fords got their first shot on goal of the game in the 28th minute when Leanne Ludwick saw her bid for the game-tying goal denied by Clara Aranguren.

The Fords had their next shot on goal in the 52nd minute when Skyler Ellenburg got free only to see Aranguren make her second save of the day in the shutout. Kathy Prescott made five second half saves to try and keep the Fords' attempt at leveling the game alive.

Women's soccer will return to Walton Field this upcoming week for its final two home contests of the regular season. The Fords will host Bryn Mawr this Wednesday at 4 p.m. Next Saturday, the team will welcome McDaniel to Walton Field for Senior Day at 1 p.m.
