HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College women's soccer team recorded its third straight Centennial Conference shutout with a 3-0 win over Washington College on Wednesday afternoon. The victory puts the Fords (7-3-2, 4-1-1 CC) within two points of second place McDaniel heading into this weekend's matchup.

The Fords got goals from Grace Mathis and Isabella Gross during the opening half of play while Skyler Ellenburg converted a second half penalty kick for the hosts. In total, five different players recorded a point in the Fords' balanced effort on Walton Field. Julie Hanss made two saves in goal during her 80-plus minutes in net before giving way to Ali Weiner for the final 9:53 of game action. Haverford now has a total of seven team shutouts this season, including five of which have come in the team's last six matches.

Mathis got the scoring started early for the Fords with her second goal of the year during the 17th minute. The junior took a pass from classmate Hannah Krapes who carried the possession all the way to the end line. Krapes created just enough room to find Mathis at the six. Both of Mathis' goals this year have been game-winners. She is now one of six Haverford players with multiple goals this season following her game-winner on Wednesday. Krapes has two assists for the year to tie her for third on the team.

Haverford added another goal just before the half with a pair of player firsts. Gross scored her first career goal with just under seven minutes remaining in the opening half. She took a beautifully played ball from Marina Piccolo behind the defense and was able to beat the goalie in a 1v1 situation. Piccolo's assist was the first point of the first year's collegiate career.

Skyler Ellenburg also scored her second goal of the season during the 60th minute of regulation. The Shorewomen were whistled for a foul in the box and Ellenburg stepped up to calmly finish what was her first collegiate attempt at a penalty kick. Her goal gives her 22 career points.

The Fords finished with a 12-3 advantage in shots, on top of a 6-2 edge in corner kick attempts. Mathis scored on her only shot attempt of the afternoon while Ellenburg and Gross each tied for the team lead with three shots. Saede Eifrig also tallied three shots on Wednesday, putting two of those attempts on goal.

Women's soccer will now turn its attention to this weekend when the Fords will host McDaniel in a 1 p.m. start. Second place in the Centennial Conference standings will be on the line as just two points separate the Fords and Green Terror heading into this weekend.
