Women's Soccer Downed by McDaniel, 4-0

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College women's soccer team was tripped up by visiting McDaniel, 4-0, Saturday afternoon on Walton Field. Despite the Fords (7-4-2, 4-2-1 CC) owning a 16-10 edge in shots over the Green Terror (10-4, 6-2 CC), Haverford was unable to crack the McDaniel defense which was anchored by seven saves from Sydney Kelly.

The Green Terror opened the scoring just 3:08 into Saturday's match as Katie Kirschenmann finished a cross from Lindsey Farrell inside the 18. Outside of that opening goal, Haverford held a 9-2 edge in shots during the first half. The only other McDaniel shot in the half came when Julie Hanss made her first of three saves during the 20th minute of play. Despite the heavy shot advantage, Haverford put just two of those attempts on target as Kelly made five of her seven saves during the second half of play.

McDaniel started to break things open in the second half when Abby Keen converted a penalty kick just under 12 minutes into that period. That PK came after Lindsey Wytkind knocked the ball out of play to avoid a sure fire second goal. Although the goal was temporarily denied, Wytkind – by rule – was shown a red card on the play.

After that goal, Haverford was forced to play with 10 players for the final 33-plus minutes of regulation. During that time, McDaniel got goals from Kristen Upton and Maddie Schwartz during the 58th and 82nd minutes of play. The Green Terror brought the final shot count a lot closer with a slight 8-7 edge in that category over the final 45 minutes of game action.

Haverford had four players finish with multiple shots as Raina Fitzpatrick, Grace Mathis, Skyler Ellenburg, and Saede Eifrig each had two attempts on the afternoon. The Fords had seven different players record the team's seven shots on goal.

Women's soccer will next play its final non-conference match of the regular season next week as the team travels to Scranton next Wednesday, October 18. That match will be a 7 p.m. start. Centennial Conference play resumes with two straight conference road trips. The return to conference action will be at Dickinson next Saturday with a 6:30 p.m. start.
