CHESTERTOWN, Md. – The Haverford College women's soccer team has still not allowed a goal during the month of October as the Fords (7-3-1, 4-1-1 CC) topped Washington College (6-5, 2-5 CC) behind a 1-0 shutout effort on Wednesday night. Haverford has now gone 7-1-1 during its last nine matches and is currently in a three-way tie for second place in the Centennial Conference after Wednesday night's results.

Haverford scored its lone goal of the night during the 55th minute when Katie Safter got on the end of a Sydney West corner kick and was able to head that cross into the goal. Safter's goal was her second this season and ninth of her career. Five of the captain's nine career goals have been game-winning efforts. The offense continues to come from all angles as Haverford now has six different players with multiple goals through the first 11 matches. West was credited with her third assist this season and 11th of her career following her cross into the box. She now ranks 15th in school history in career assists.

The Fords finished the night with a slight 7-6 advantage in shots, but put four of those attempts on goal. That was in stark contrast to just one shot on goal for the Shorewomen. Haverford goalie Julie Hanss stopped WAC's only shot on goal during the 15th minute of play, recording her third straight shutout. She lowered her goals against average this season to what would be a school-record 0.52 GAA if the season ended today. She now has 11 clean sheets during her career with three more combined shutouts.

After a possession-oriented first half, the Fords picked up the offensive tempo over the final 45 minutes by putting three of their four shots on goal during the second half. Haverford also earned its only two corner attempts of the evening during that time. In addition to her goal, Safter led Haverford's offense with three shots on the night while West took a pair of shots during the victory.

Women's soccer will return to Maryland this Saturday for another Centennial Conference matchup as it travels to McDaniel for a 1 p.m. start in Westminster. In the looming crucial conference match this weekend, the Green Terror hold the fifth and final playoff position but are just one point out of second place.
