Season Review: Women's Soccer Returns to NCAA Tournament

Season Review: Women's Soccer Returns to NCAA Tournament

Signature wins: The Haverford College women's soccer team advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the fourth time in program history during the 2019 campaign. The Fords set new program records for most consecutive wins (8) and consecutive shutouts (7) during a strong season. However, it was arguably three regionally-ranked wins which gave the Fords a strong enough resume to earn one of the at-large berths to the national tournament.

Haverford started its historic winning streak with a 2-1 victory over then-No. 25 Scranton during the Haverford College Kick Off Classic. The Fords got goals from Leanne Ludwick and Jaclyn Corbin to topple the eventual Landmark Conference Champions by a 2-1 score. Staring down the challenge of competing in a conference which sent a record five teams to the NCAA Tournament, the Fords took the test head on throughout the regular season, highlighted by a 1-0 win against Gettysburg and 2-0 victory over McDaniel. Alyssa Saito could not have picked a better time for her first career goal as that tally proved to be the game-winner against the previously undefeated Bullets. Goals from Kendra Griesman and Ludwick gave Haverford a 2-0 win against McDaniel and helped the Fords go unbeaten in 13 straight matches dating back to that initial victory over Scranton.

Looking forward: Haverford will certainly miss the leadership and talent of its impactful six-member senior class which helped the Fords win 39 matches and make four consecutive playoff appearances. Nevertheless, eight of the team's starters from this year's team return next season with a deep roster that includes 16 returners who appeared in 10 or more matches this fall. That group of returnees includes All-Centennial Conference performers Hannah Friedrich, Emily Thissen, and Celia Page.
