BALTIMORE, Md. - The Haverford College women's squash team closed out the first-semester portion of its schedule with a pair of matches at Meadow Mill Athletic Club on Saturday. The Fords fell 8-1 to host Johns Hopkins University before losing 9-0 to the University of Virginia.

Senior Caroline Nightingale, playing at the top of the ladder, earned a 3-1 win (11-6, 8-11, 11-5, 11-4) against Elizabeth King to lead the Fords (1-2) against 30th-ranked Johns Hopkins (1-2). Sophomores Alyssa Kaden and Emily Berlin, at No. 5 and No. 6, respectively, also played well as they each suffered tight 12-10 losses during the course of their respective matches.

Haverford, ranked 31st in the latest College Squash Association national poll, capped the busy day against No. 27 Virginia (2-0). Berlin was again solid at No. 6 as she registered an 11-9 game-one win before Charlotte Seiler closed out the 3-1 victory.

Saturday's matches brought the first-semester portion of the Fords' schedule to a close. The new year will bring the alumnae matches on Jan. 11 before Haverford participates in the two-day Pioneer Valley Invitational beginning on Jan. 17.
