Women's squash upends Northeastern at Pioneer Valley Invite

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. - The Haverford College women's squash team concluded play at the 2014 Pioneer Valley Invitational with a 7-2 victory over Northeastern University on Saturday afternoon at the Mount Holyoke College Squash Courts.

The 32nd-ranked Fords (2-5) tallied four 3-0 victories on their way to the second win of the season. Freshman Isabel Agnew gave up just 10 points to Hailie Joo at No. 5, while sophomore Ava Lichauco was also impressive at No. 8 with an 11-2, 11-4, 11-9 victory over Erica Han. Sophomore Sarah Madigan and freshman Emilia Cobbs also swept past their opponents at No. 3 and No. 9, respectively.

Junior Samara Flug, at No. 4, along with sophomores Alyssa Kaden and Emily Berlin, at No. 6 and No. 7, respectively, registered 3-1 wins to help Haverford take down the 33rd-ranked Huskies (0-8) and earn a split on the day.

The Fords' first match of the day saw Haverford fall to 21st-ranked Mount Holyoke (6-5).

Flug and Agnew made Elyse Taylor and Allison Shilling work hard at No. 4 and No. 5, respectively, but the Lyons managed to claim the 9-0 win.

The Fords' busy weekend continues tomorrow with an 11 a.m. match against Tufts University followed by a 1 p.m. contest against host Yale University.
