Women's Squash Goes 1-1 to Begin 2014-15 Season

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Haverford College women's squash team began its season with a win over New York University (6-1) and a loss to Vassar College (8-1) at the Kenyon Hall on Saturday afternoon.

Freshman Isabelle Gotuaco won 3-1 (7-11, 11-8, 11-4, 12-10) at the No. 1 ladder position over NYU's Katie Bouton. Senior Alex Love tallied a 3-0 victory, dropping just five points in the final two games. Junior Bethany Simmonds lost the third and fourth games, but rallied for a 11-6 win in the fifth game. Sophomore Isabel Agnew lost just four points in her first two games in a decisive victory. Freshman Grace Fioramonti-Gorchow won her first ever match with a four game win over NYU's Inez Songadiwardhana. Senior Avery Weisel lost just six points in the last two games in her 3-0 victory at the No. 6 ladder position.

Simmonds recorded the only victory for the Fords in their 8-1 loss to Vassar. She took down Isabelle Bertram 3-0 (11-5, 11-9, 11-5). Agnew won the first game over Carly Scher 13-11, but lost three straight (12-10, 11-7, 11-4). Weisel picked up a game over Roxanne Ringer, but suffered a four game loss (11-7, 5-11, 11-2, 11-5).

Just like the men's team, the women's squash team will host the Franklin and Marshall Diplomats on Friday at 6:30 p.m. before traveling to Dickinson on Saturday for a match scheduled at noon.
