ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Haverford College women's squash team opened the season with a resounding 9-0 sweep of Johns Hopkins at the Navy Round Robin on Saturday. Haverford saw triumphs up and down the ladder, with the Blue Jays securing just one game on the afternoon. Haverford came into the match with a strategy of playing the back corners and the Fords executed, with early momentum gained through effective serving and solid, poised play able to secure victory.

Isabelle Gotuaco powered past Carley Petrone in a sweep while freshman Kaitlin Reese defeated Meena Chatrothi at the number two position, allowing just six total points in a sweep that included an 11-0 game.  Co-captain Isabel Agnew swept Courtney Colwell at the third spot and Grace Fioramonti-Gorchow took down Dayna  Grillette in the fourth position. Emilia Cobbs also won with a sweep of Nora Jendeyla at number five.

Seeing their first collegiate action, Mason McNulty and Anna Kullnigg both posted wins. Kullnigg surrendered just two points in an impressive debut at the number eight spot on the ladder.

Haverford posted its second straight victory over Johns Hopkins after taking down the Blue Jays 6-3 on Feburary 6 of last season. The Fords are now 8-9 overall against Johns Hopkins and 6-6 at a neutral site. This was just Haverford's second sweep of Johns Hopkins, and the first in 18 seasons, with the result adding to an early November triumph in 1998.

Haverford will next return to action at the Vassar Invitational next Saturday, facing off with Connecticut College (1:30 p.m.) and the host Brewers (3:00 p.m.)
