Women's Squash Can't Catch Mount Holyoke

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The No. 30 Haverford Women's Squash team was defeated by No. 29 Mount Holyoke, 9-0, at the GIAC Squash Courts on Saturday. Haverford falls to 1-8 so far on the season in defeat while Mount Holyoke improves to 3-13 with the road win in Haverford.

The Lyons of Mount Holyoke got out to a 1-0 lead with a win from Tanishka Sachidanand over Mason McNulty at the number six position on the ladder (11-8, 11-7, 11-6) before Kaitlin Reese was downed by Ragini Ghose at the second spot (11-6, 11-8, 11-9). Olivia Franco was bested by Allison Shilling (11-1, 11-3, 11-3) in the fourth spot to round out the first set of matches.

 In the second set, Stephanie Lukez was defeated by Amanda Lee in the ninth spot (11-2, 11-7, 11-8) ahead of Mount Holyoke wins from Nadindhi Udangawa over Isabel Agnew in the third position (11-2, 11-3, 11-5) and Lessly Portillo over Emilia Cobbs in the fifth spot (11-4, 11-4, 11-7). Sophia Jackson battled in the first set against Rose Minichiello, falling 11-9. Minichiello ended up prevailing 11-9, 11-4, 11-2 in the eighth spot on the ladder.

At the top of the ladder, Isabelle Gotuaco put up a fight against Brandy Williamson, taking the first set 11-7 and battling her opponent through a tough four-game match that included extra points in the deciding set. Gotuaco fell 11-7, 11-5 and 13-11 in the final game after gutting out a big first game win. In the final match of the afternoon, Emily Chang got past Anna Kullnigg (11-2, 11-5, 11-4).

Haverford returns to action tomorrow as the Fords travel to face No. 21 Dickinson in Carlisle, Pa. The Fords will also face off with Denison in Carlisle. Following the matchup with Dickinson, the Fords will return home for the final three regular season contests, including matchups with Georgetown (Feb. 4), Boston College (Feb. 11) and Bucknell (Feb. 11).
