Women's Squash Defeated Twice at Vassar

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Haverford College women's squash team suffered a pair of defeats on Saturday at Vassar College, falling 6-3 to No. 15 Bates and 9-0 to the No. 29 ranked host Brewers, on Saturday at Kenyon Hall on the campus of Vassar. Haverford is now 2-2 after the day of action.

Bates 6, Haverford 3

The Fords received standout performances from the seven through nine positions on the ladder, despite a continuous press from the Bobcat players that made it difficult for the Fords to get to the "T" position with consistency. At the seventh spot, Mason McNulty battled back after dropping the first two games, storming back to best her opponent, Nubia Beasley-Bartee in five games (3-11, 7-11, 11-2, 11-4, 12-10). In the eighth spot, Sophia Jackson was able to sweep Tiffany Cervantes (11-7, 11-7, 11-9) while Stephanie Lukez took an 11-3, 11-5, 11-9 sweep over Issy Hnat at the ninth spot on the ladder.

Vassar 9, Haverford 0

The Fords were swept by the home standing Brewers, with Grace Fioramonti-Gorchow taking her opponent to a fifth and deciding game before falling 7-11, 11-7, 13-11, 8-11, 13-11. Mason McNulty and Maddie Hager both took their opponents to a fourth game while Sunyoung Chai and Kaitlin Reese both put up tough fights against fast paced opposition from the Brewers.

At 2-2 through the first four matches, the Fords will host Swarthmore on Saturday, December 9 at the GIAC Squash Courts before breaking for the winter holidays. The 2018 portion of the schedule will begin on January 16 with home matchups against No. 16 Tufts and No. 28 Connecticut College beginning at 10:30 a.m.
