Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Release

PHILADELPHIA – Haverford College women's squash senior co-captain Isabelle Gotuaco has been named to the 2017-18 Philadelphia Inquirer Women's At-Large Academic team, the Philadelphia Area Sports Information Directors Association (Philly-SIDA) announced in a release on Tuesday afternoon.

In order to be eligible for Academic All-Area honors, an athlete must be in at least his or her second year at the institution and hold a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20 or better. The team is voted on by the sports information offices of the 30 area institutions from the Philadelphia metropolitan area that compose Philly-SIDA.

Gotuaco finished a stellar career at Haverford with an 11-5 record during the 2017-18 season, playing primarily at the first three positions on the Haverford ladder. Gotuaco tallied a 5-0 mark at No. 3 singles. Her season also included a 3-0 mark at the CSA Team Championships as Haverford finished as the No. 29 team in the nation. Gotuaco's 38 career wins are tied for the most in the history of the Haverford women's squash program.

After finishing her 2016-17 campaign as the Harrow Sports College Squash Player of the E Division, Gotuaco represented her native Philippines at the Southeast Asia Games last summer in Kuala Lumpur. Gotuaco finished with a bronze medal after representing her nation in the team event, mixed doubles and singles competition.

Gotuaco's award is the first Academic All-Area award for a Haverford women's squash athlete since Sarah Madigan was named to the At-Large team during the 2015-16 season.
