Women's Squash Edged by Swarthmore

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Facing off against a co-ed Swarthmore squad, the Haverford College women's squash team battled to the finish in a 6-3 defeat at the hands of the Garnet. The Fords are now 2-1 on the season.

At the first position, junior co-captain Kaitlin Reese proved her mettle after dropping the first game 11-5. Reese roared back with 11-7, 11-8, and 11-8 victories, pulling to 3-0 at the top flight this season.

Isabelle Johnson looked poised and ready to help anchor the Fords at the second flight in just her first year campaign on campus. Using a powerful shot and a smart strategy, Johnson grabbed the first game from Matthew Peterson before dropping three spirited games (7-11, 11-8, 11-9, 11-5). The third flight saw Maddie Hager locked in an intense battle with Yichuan Yan, as Yan came away victorious after Hager took the first game into extra points. Yan eventually earned a 12-10, 11-7, 11-8 victory.

At the fourth spot, Shreya Singh continued her impressive debut, pulling her career record to 3-0 with a sweep of Amanda Izes. Singh triumphed over her Garnet opponent 11-6, 11-7, 11-7.

Robert Gunn defeated Urgyen Wangmo at the fifth position (11-2, 11-5, 11-8), and Nathan Pitock got the best of junior co-captain Sunny Chai at the sixth (11-6, 11-7, 11-4). James Sutton defeated Hannah Adler (11-4, 11-2, 11-4) at the seventh flight, and Eva Tamkin proved to be a force at the eighth spot, taking the second and fourth games by decisive 11-2 scores before eventually falling by a final of 11-5, 2-11, 11-7, 2-11, 11-7 to Swarthmore's Eddie Wu.

Haverford will now host its annual alumnae matches on Saturday, November 17 at 1 p.m. The Fords will then travel to Poughkeepsie, N.Y. and the campus of Vassar College for matchups with Denison and the host No. 34 Brewers on December 1.
