LANCASTER, Pa. - A short-handed No. 26 ranked Haverford College women's squash team battled against No. 18 Dickinson and No. 20 Franklin & Marshall on Saturday afternoon inside the Mayser Center on the Franklin & Marshall campus. The Fords fell 9-0 to the Red Devils of Dickinson, before dropping an 8-1 decision to the host Diplomats in the afternoon match. Haverford is now 8-5 entering the bye week before the CSA Team Championships.

Forced to default at flights seven through nine due to injury, Haverford ran into an early uphill battle against the Red Devils. The Fords gave Dickinson a significant challenge, with junior Kaitlin Reese taking Eloise Nimoityn to five games at the top flight to highlight the effort.

Reese grabbed the first game from her opponent by an 11-9 final, before Nimoityn responded with consecutive 11-5 victories. Unfazed, Reese responded with a 11-6 triumph. The fifth and final game was a spirited battle that took extra points to award a winner. Ultimately, Nimoityn narrowly edged Reese by a 12-10 final.

Junior Sunny Chai had a standout performance at the fourth flight. Chai fell behind in the first game, dropping the opener to Abbie Wingerd. Wingerd fended off Chai in the second game, prevailing 12-10. Chai bounced back to the tune of an 11-8 victory in the third game, but Wingerd took an 11-4 win in the fourth and final game.

First year Shreya Singh also took her opponent to extra points in the third game, before falling 12-10 (11-5, 11-5, 12-10).

Against the Diplomats, two more Fords had a chance to prove their mettle against tough opposition. Junior Sophia Jackson scored a big victory for Haverford at the fifth flight. After a thrilling 13-11 loss in the first game, Jackson reversed that score with a 13-11 victory in the second. The victory helped Jackson seize the momentum of the contest, as she handed Haverford a tally towards its ledger with consecutive 11-6 victories in the third and fourth games.

Elsewhere, sophomore Eva Tamkin put up a tough fight against Anna Chang-Mei Leder at the sixth flight, dropping consecutive 11-8 decisions before winning a 12-10 battle against Leder. The Diplomats player eventually grabbed an 11-6 decision to put an individual win in the Franklin & Marshall tally.

Haverford will now have a week off before the CSA Team Championships open on February 22 at Trinity. More information on the postseason tournament, including seedings and draws, will be made available in the week of the tournament.
