
MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The 26th-ranked Haverford College women's squash team (2-6) began the Wesleyan Round Robin on Friday afternoon, falling 9-0 to the host No. 19 Cardinals (7-1) at Rosenbaum Squash Center.
In the eighth flight, Portia Pilam secured the opening point for Wesleyan, defeating Aman Hamdard in straight games (11-2, 11-4, 11-0). At the sixth flight, Zoe Liu battled Wesleyan's Sydney Smith, but Smith prevailed with scores of 11-9, 11-5, 11-3. In the second flight, Avika Pande edged past Ariana Solecki, with the Haverford senior pushing Pande in the first two games before falling in the third (11-9, 11-8, 11-4).
In the ninth flight, Caroline Caiati bested Matilda Chartener (11-6, 11-3, 11-2), while Jaclyn Dichter sealed the match for Wesleyan at the fourth flight with a key win over Julia Carrasco (11-2, 11-1, 11-6).
At the top flight, Joelle Phuah claimed a crucial game against Mira Bakshi after dropping the first two (11-8, 11-7), rallying for an 11-8 third-game triumph before falling in the fourth (11-8).
Elsewhere, Aanya Anand defeated Catherine Fortin (11-8, 11-6, 11-5) at the third flight, Leandra Sze topped Ofri Geva at the seventh (11-3, 11-2, 11-3), and Rachel Matamoros overcame Caroline Gay in the fifth (11-4, 11-4, 11-2). In the exhibition match, Frances Guenther triumphed over Laine Reshefsky (11-4, 11-4, 11-2).
Haverford now returns to action Saturday with a 12:30 p.m. match against Liberty League foe No. 22 Denison, as Wesleyan Round Robin play continues at Rosenbaum Squash Center.
