Booth named interim head coach of women's tennis

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Director of Athletics Wendy Smith is pleased to announce the hiring of Christopher Booth as the interim head coach of the Haverford College women's tennis team, as a temporary replacement for Ann Koger who has taken a leave of absence.

"I am excited about the background that Coach Booth brings to the Haverford women's tennis program," says Smith.  "His tennis expertise and experience in a Quaker-based educational environment make him uniquely qualified to provide a positive and competitive experience for our student-athletes."

Booth joins Haverford after serving as the assistant coach of the Germantown Friends School (GFS) girl's varsity tennis team.

"In the fall (GFS) coach Kim McMenamin and I coached the girls to a Friends School League championship," said Booth. "I think we both understood as coaches that if we help our girls realize their potential as players through hard work and commitment that the wins will come, both individually and as a team. I will bring that same approach to Haverford because I believe it is a winning formula."

Booth graduated from Morehouse College in 1979 with a Bachelor of Science degree in biology. During his playing days at Morehouse he was a co-captain of a Division II men's tennis team that won three Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference titles.

Prior to moving back to Philadelphia, where he is a board member of the Woodford Tennis Club, Booth worked from 1983-2013 for International Technology Services in Harrisburg, Pa.

Booth inherits a Haverford squad that has qualified for the Centennial Conference tournament each of the past five seasons under Koger's leadership.

"It is an honor and a privilege to become a part of the Haverford College community," states Booth. "I am very excited about this upcoming season. We have some very talented and dedicated players."

The Fords open their spring season on March 7 in a non-conference home match against New York University. The team then travels to Florida for a week of competitions over spring break.
