Fords take on St. Lawrence in Florida

KISSIMMEE, Fla. - The Haverford College women's tennis team continued its spring break schedule in Florida with a 6-1 non-conference loss to St. Lawrence University on Wednesday night.

Suffering their first loss of the season, the Fords (2-1) gave the undefeated Saints (6-0) a battle but managed just one point on the day. Junior Caitlin Gallagher earned Haverford's lone victory by outlasting Elkie Vandenbeemt at top-flight singles (4-6, 6-3, 6-3).

Senior Kate Donches almost came up with another win for the Fords at No. 5 singles but Anna Young held on for the 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 victory.

St. Lawrence, tied for 20th in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Northeast regional rankings, posted an 8-2 win at No.3 doubles before the match was called due to darkness.

Haverford finishes up its spring break slate on Thursday with a match against Stevens Institute of Technology at 8 a.m.
