Women's tennis wins fourth straight

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - The Haverford College women's tennis team registered its fourth consecutive victory Tuesday afternoon with a dominating 9-0 triumph over host Ursinus College in Centennial Conference action.

The Fords (7-2, 3-1 CC) jumped out to a 3-0 lead after doubles and never looked back as Haverford went on to register five of the six wins at singles in straight sets.

Junior Caitlin Gallagher and senior Alex Ferrara each dropped just one game in their singles victories at No. 1 and No. 2, respectively. The duo had also joined forces earlier in the match to record an 8-3 win at top-flight doubles.

Joining Gallagher and Ferrara in accounting for two points on the day were senior Kate Donches, sophomore Robyn Himelstein and freshman Abby Payson. Himelstein, the reigning conference player of the week, won her fourth straight singles match with a memorable perfomance at No. 3. Trailing 7-2 in the tiebreak, Himelstein roared back by rattling off eight straight points to register the 10-7 win and claim the match.

The Fords continued their mastery over the Bears (6-5, 1-1) as Haverford has never lost to Ursinus in the history of Centennial play.

Looking for their fifth straight conquest, the Fords return to action on Saturday with a match against host Franklin & Marshall College beginning at noon.
