Fords edged by F&M

LANCASTER, Pa. - The Haverford College women's tennis team saw its win streak end at four as host Franklin & Marshall College edged the Fords, 5-4, on Saturday afternoon in Centennial Conference action at the Brooks Tennis Center.

Trailing 2-1 after doubles, the Fords (7-3, 3-2 CC) looked for a comeback during singles. Seniors Alex Ferrara and Kate Donches, at No. 2 and No. 4, respectively, earned straight set victories to help the Haverford cause.

Playing at top-flight singles, junior Caitlin Gallagher earned another point for Haverford by rallying past Caitlin Rummelsburg. After Rummelsburg earned a 7-5 victory in the first set, Gallagher persevered for a 7-6 (7-5) win in set two. The marathon went to a superset tiebreak and Gallagher, the reigning conference player of the year, delivered with a 10-4 victory to take the match.

The Diplomats (7-4, 3-1) claimed wins in the other three single spots to register the overall victory.

The Fords' first point of the day came by way of an 8-6 win by Donches and sophomore Robyn Himelstein at No. 2 doubles.

Haverford returns to action on Wednesday when it hosts Muhlenberg College (4-3, 3-1). The Centennial contest begins at 4 p.m.
