Fords bring Muhlenberg's winning streak to an end

HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Haverford College women's tennis team registered its fifth win in its last six outings with a 7-2 Centennial Conference victory over visiting Muhlenberg College on Wednesday at the Bettye Marshall Tennis Courts.

Leading 2-1 after doubles, the Fords (8-3, 4-2 CC) dominated singles play against the Mules (4-4, 3-2) on the way to ending the visitors' three-match winning streak.

Playing at No. 3, sophomore Robyn Himelstein continued her fine season with a quick victory over Emily Szulman (6-1, 6-2).

Senior Alex Ferrara also claimed a straight-set win over Nina Sanders at No. 2. The second set went to a tiebreak as darkness set in and Ferrara persevered for her seventh consecutive singles victory (6-3, 7-6 (11-9)).

Kate Donches and Abby Payson each went three sets in wins at No. 4 and No. 5, respectively.

Junior Caitlin Gallagher earned the Fords' final point during singles action with a victory over Sara Finger at No. 1.

Gallagher and Ferrara had joined forces earlier in the match to earn an 8-5 victory at No.1 doubles while Himelstein and Donches tallied an 8-4 win in the No. 2 spot.

Haverford returns to action on Saturday afternoon with a conference contest against visiting Dickinson College beginning at 2 p.m.
